Have you ever wondered how long a work item actually stays in each step of your Jira flow?
This is a common question, especially when the customer begins to question where the process is stalling or why deliveries take longer than expected.

A simple (and free) way to get this answer is with Status Time Reports Free. The app automatically calculates the time that each issue spends in each status, allowing you to view, for example, how long an item was in “In service” to evaluate the team’s productivity, or in “Waiting for third parties” to understand the impact of external dependencies.

Lightweight and intuitive, the app gives you a real view of workflow behavior and helps you identify bottlenecks without the complexity of advanced plugins.

🔎 Multiple ways to search

In addition to the basic calculation, the application allows you to filter information by project, issue type, assignee and date range. Although the name of the app highlights the “status”, it also allows you to generate reports from other fields, such as time with each assignee, or make groupings by week and type of issue, as we see in the image below:

Another interesting point is the possibility of customizing the way data is displayed. You can choose which statuses and fields appear on the report, reorder columns, and even group statuses to measure lead time or cycle time.

And if you want to go further, there is also the option to create custom work calendars, excluding weekends, holidays and breaks, a very useful feature for teams that do not follow the standard calendar.

📈 Average and summation calculations

Another interesting feature is the possibility to analyze the items from different perspectives — such as average time by status, total accumulated time or even groupings by period (for example, average time per week of creation).
It is also possible to include additional information, such as how many times the item has gone through a certain status, in addition to the total dates and times of each passage, which greatly enriches the analysis.

Best of all, reports can be saved and shared. So, if you usually generate recurring analyzes, you can save the filter settings and quickly access them in the side menu.

In practice, understanding the time spent at each stage of the flow is one of the most effective ways to see opportunities for improvement. It’s the kind of data that helps justify process adjustments, review SLAs, and even propose automations that make sense. Even though it is free, the App delivers a visibility that a lot of the team still does not have and this, in itself, is already a great differential.

Of course, like every free version, it has its limitations. There are no native visual charts, some integrations with dashboards and automations are only available in the Pro version, and exporting is limited to CSV.

But honestly, for those who just want to understand the workflow and start measuring results, the App delivers value fast. It is simple, lightweight and ideal for those who want to show concrete data about the team’s performance or even set the stage for a future discussion on more advanced metrics.
